At Z2 Engineering we understand that a new boiler is a big decision and we want to help you make the right decisions when it comes to heating your home.
We’ve put together our top questions to ask any heating engineer before your new boiler installation. After all, you might not need a new boiler or there may be a more affordable cost to fixing your current boiler.
So, what do you need to ask:
Am I getting the best boiler for my home?
It is always best to check with a heating engineer that you’re making the best decision for both you and your property. You want to get a boiler that is economical to run in the long term, whilst providing adequate heat for the size of your property. On average you should ask for 3 quotes from different heating engineers, but don’t simply go for the cheapest as this may cost you more money in the long run. It is also important to check its energy rating and manufacturer guarantee.
What guarantee comes with my new boiler?
Generally speaking a new boiler comes with a warranty so that in the event that your boiler develops a fault or breaks down, the manufacturer will send an engineer to fix or replace your boiler at no extra cost.
The guarantee period can vary depending on the boiler manufacturer and model, so it is important to ask your heating engineer what guarantee is provided by the manufacturer. It is important to check how long the guarantee is for, and whether this covers parts, labour or both.
It is important to check the wording as you are looking for a guarantee, not a warranty. A guarantee holds more rights in your favour.
Does my boiler automatically register for its guarantee?
Legally, at the end of your new boiler installation, two things need to happen. Your boiler needs to be registered with the manufacturers to activate its guarantee and secondly your new boiler installation needs to be listed on the Gas Safe Register to prove the installation has been carried out by a qualified engineer. Typically, the installer does this, but it is important to check it has been done to ensure you get your guarantee.
Is my current boiler still under guarantee?
Before investing in a new boiler installation it is important to check if your boiler guarantee is still active. The boiler guarantee is a contract between you and the boiler manufacturer to attend your property and repair or replace the boiler within a reasonable period of time without quibble. The guarantee is legally binding on the manufacturer and improves your consumer rights.
Before investing a lot of money in a new boiler it is worth checking when the warranty on your boiler expires as some companies provide up to a 10 year guarantee.
